Inflammation…….. The Secret Killer

I was reading a Time Magazine’s the other day and the  headline read, “The Secret Killer.” The next sub-headlines read, “The surprising link between Inflammation and Heart Attacks, Cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases. What you can do to fight it . . .?”

According to Ancient Medicine these diseases just don’t occur overnight, they usually have decades of puzzling or even cryptic symptoms before the Heart Attack, Cancer, or Alzheimer’s appear.  Therefore there are simple pre-warnings or cryptic symptoms that are imperative to know. Otherwise it could be the possible Secret Killer to Your Health and Wellbeing!

Did you know that tiredness, headaches, stress, sleep disturbances, sinus, hay-fever, depression, neck pain, back and sciatica pain, any pain – anywhere, reflux, heartburn and muscle soreness and cramps to name a few are all possible symptoms of inflammation and can be the early warning signs of something more serious.

Ancient medicine has known that Inflammation is one of the causes of serious disease for thousands of years. Sadly, Western Medicine is just catching up and unfortunately scientific validation usually takes many decades, sometimes centuries costing millions . . .if not billions..

Inflammation is getting more and more serious press around the world and scientific research has never poured so much money into its analysis. On one hand it’s a shame that millions, if not billions of dollars are used to prove what Ancient Medicine already knows. But on another it’s rewarding to see Ancient Medicine is being continuously confirmed.

For over 20 years within Professional Practice, Ancient Medicine has shown me the truth about inflammation. That is, when a patient enters my Clinic they have come to see me because their life has been challenged by an immediate or a chronic health CRISIS. They are at their wits end and need help now. Their symptoms are usually a collaboration of inflammation, some acute and some chronic, in different parts of the body. Life is no longer fun when the body is inflamed, their family life suffers, their love life and sex life suffers and their relationship suffers.

Imagine if low levels of inflammation were occurring all through you body right now, do you think that would make a serious difference to any of your future wealth creation decisions. Of course it would. Get this critical element correct (inflammation) and it can make a positive difference to your financial freedom.

Now please, it’s not a panacea but it can help enormously.

Here’s an example:

I recently had a conversation with a Property Developer, who is a client of my Clinic. As you might be aware, property at the moment is an up and down affair, mostly down and unfortunately his Property Development has gone south, leaving a very stressful situation where it looks like the receivers have been notified.

He even admitted that intuitively he knew he should not have gone ahead with the development, but intellectually he over-rode his intuitive knowingness. He came into my Clinic with tiredness, body aches and pains, headaches, overwhelming stress and a feeling that things aren’t right. His blood tests from the Doctor revealed all was fine, but he knew otherwise, that’s why he came to see me. From our in-house tests he was not very well and his body was bathed in inflammation. His decision- making process was therefore very disjointed.

In 98% of cases, one’s intuitive awareness is over-ridden by the intellect because of Inflammation. In hindsight it is easy to see if the wrong investment decision has been made. When your body is without inflammation or pain your inner voice or your intuition is heightened, therefore better decisions can be made about any future investments.

The conversation I had with this new client was enlightening and inspirational to him.

Now this is the same for everyone. When the body is bathed in inflammation, your lifestyle can be challenged with something that unfortunately most take for granted, and that is your health and most think that health will look after itself and there’s no need to be preventative or to take a proactive stance.

This is the usual plight of the busy Entrepreneur – working late, with mounting stress and the will to succeed that only the TRUE Entrepreneur understands. But most do it with the thought that they can catch up with their health at a later time. How many of you reading this have heard or read about someone who dropped dead on the golf course or on their morning walk or on their daily jog. Firstly a malady of symptoms accumulates along the entrepreneur’s path. Possibly tiredness, then some headaches, stress accumulates, digestive problems like heartburn, reflux, sinus and sleeping problems.

All symptoms of inflammation

Unfortunately when patients do enter my clinic most only see and feel the symptoms that they are aware of, however I look at what these symptoms of inflammation could be telling me. For example, if someone fell over yesterday and hurt their back and they are suffering from sciatica and severe back pain (inflammation) and with one treatment all symptoms disappear, the answer is simple: there are no sinister health problems behind these symptoms However, now let’s look at someone who has sciatica, back pain and also sufferers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, reflux, heartburn, sinus and or hay fever (all symptoms of inflammation) and this person has had these symptoms for the last 5 years. They have seen nearly every Doctor and Natural Health Clinic in their area with no improvement. From these cryptic symptoms and from an Ancient Medicine perspective there may be a sinister health CRISIS lurking.

In Western Medicine there is only 1 stage to disease, and that is when you have the disease or when a diagnosis can be made like a Heart Attack, or Cancer, or Alzheimer’s. In Ancient Medicine there are 6 stages to disease and the body in its wisdom will NOT give someone a heart attack, diabetes or cancer unless there are a series of simple pre-warnings.

What the body will do however is give a whole series of symptoms for many years, more often than not for 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or even 60 years of accumulating symptoms before it gives you something life threatening. From the above example if suffering from sciatica, back pain, irritable bowel syndrome, reflux, heartburn, sinus and or hay fever then the possibly of having a severe disease becomes more likely.

In Ancient Medicine these symptoms are pre-warnings to possible serious disease

When someone enters my Centre it’s not the obvious symptoms that I am concerned about. Of course my goal is to reduce, if not eliminate these symptoms as quick as possible, so that they can get back to their normal lifestyle, but what I am always looking for is what these symptoms (inflammation) are possibly alluding to.

Importantly inflammation is divided into two types, Obvious and Silent.

  1. Obvious Inflammation is the one that most people are quite familiar with, otherwise known as PAIN. Like Back Pain, Sciatica, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Neck Pain, Frozen Shoulder, Arthritis, Sinusitis, Diverticulitis, Fibromyalgia and headaches to name a few. It’s obvious!!!!
  2. The second type of inflammation is more sinister, because it is silent.

Usually you don’t know it’s occurring until it’s too late. With the end result being Diabetes or a Heart Attack, Cancer, Alzheimer’s, an Autoimmune Disease or any other type of serious disease. Silent Inflammation can also put fat around major organs, like the heart and liver.

Critically Important . . . from an ancient medicine perspective; you can’t have any diseases mentioned in 2, if you don’t have any of the symptoms mentioned in 1.

The scenario usually goes something like this. Year one you go to your Doctor because you generally don’t feel well. Nothing serious, maybe tiredness, a few headaches, weight gain and sleeping is not as good as it used to be. All blood tests reveal all is okay. You walk out of the doctor’s surgery feeling relieved because there’s nothing wrong but confused because there’s nothing wrong and yet you feel that your health is not as good as it should be.

Another 6 months pass.

More blood tests and all are okay. At different times over the years you go back to your Doctor because your symptoms are getting a little worse, with a few more symptoms, but still all blood tests are fine. You don’t want to go back too often because you don’t want to be seen as a hypochondriac. This continues for 5, 11, 15, 21 and posibly 27 years and after visiting your Doctor that last time, a phone call from the Doctor’s receptionist wants you back tomorrow because one of your tests came back out of the norm.

Fearing the worst, the Doctor gets more blood tests and all is confirmed. It’s Cancer or Diabetes, a Heart Attack, Alzheimer’s or an Autoimmune Disease. All are the end result of Chronic Inflammation that has been silent for years. But symptoms have been there for 27 years (tiredness, a few headaches, stress, weight gain and sleeping problems) but are not identified for what they really are, possibly early warning signs to something more life threatening.

At this point in time you’re angry and confused. Nearly yelling at your Doctor, you say . . .

“Why didn’t you do something 27 years ago when I first got my symptoms?” In defence of the Doctor, they only like to treat when there is pathology, when the blood tests reveal that there is something seriously wrong.
Recently, a male client 46 years old, walked into my Clinic with symptoms of tiredness, weight gain, heel spur, body aches and pains, and general sleeping problems. Within 4 to 5 weeks these symptoms were 95% improved. During the 4 to 5 weeks he also had some specific blood chemistry completed. From looking at the blood tests in a preventative framework he was possibly heading towards a serious heart attack.

His CRP was slightly elevated, his ferritin and creatine kinase were elevated, his bad cholesterol was high and his homocysteine was slightly elevated. Importantly these blood readings weren’t seriously high but they were on the high side of normal. Giving serious clues that the symptoms for what he came into the Clinic with were giving the astute Practitioner early warning signs of something very life threatening.

So what did I do . . .

The first step was to identify what is occurring through specialized blood tests and to find out what stage of disease this person was in. Stage 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6! The next step was to do everything we could to slow down the inflammatory cycles so that it doesn’t cause any serious diseases.

Once the six stages of disease have been confirmed you might be one of the lucky ones and have no serious disease . . . as yet. But, if nothing is done, like clockwork it will happen. Like the old saying goes, “it’s not if . . . but when’. Luckily for my client mentioned above, he was in late stage 4 and it’s easily reversed. But he is aware he needs to do the work. I can show him what to do but if he doesn’t take to heart the suggestions then serious disease may take its hold.

The second part of the puzzle is to control Silent Inflammation and that occurs by looking at the causes.

There are 4 causes to any disease according to Ancient Medicine and they are:

  1. Stress. It increases abdominal fat very quickly. Chronic stress affects all hormones abnormally, therefore creating more serious inflammatory reactions. In future issues
I’ll discuss this in greater detail. One of the best ways to counteract stress is through exercise.
  2. What we eat and drink. Over consumption also creates belly fat or Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic Syndrome occurs when a male’s waist measurement is over 102cm or a female’s waist measurement is over 88cm. Now there’s statistically a 500% more chance of getting cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure or having a heart attack.
Also Metabolic Syndrome creates fat around Heart, Liver and other major Organs. With Metabolic Syndrome the body becomes bathed in inflammation. If nothing changes, statistically by 2044 EVERY WESTERN Child will be clinically OBESE. At present 1 in 3 Australian children are classified as obese. By 2058 every WESTERN ADULT will be clinically OBESE.
  3. Chemicals and Pollution are another cause of increased free radicals in your body. Heavy metals like mercury, cadmium, copper and lead cause very high free radical production, which is one of the reasons they cause disease. For example, Lead is associated strongly with heart disease.
  4. Structure or Metabolic Imbalances. For example a pinched nerve in your back with pain or no pain creates inflammation. Also a subclinical under-active thyroid gland can create silent inflammation. Genetic and Hereditary predispositions are also within this category.

With the 4 causes above I could write a book on each, but for the size of this article I can’t, but I am sure you get my drift. The answer is to be proactive with your health and that of your family’s health and create routines to do what you can to diminish the affects of the 4 causes mentioned above.

You can do this by . . .

  1. Reducing stress in your life. Go to the gym, and start exercising. Plus exercise at home, especially using resistance training. Exercise is a fantastic stress reducer. If you exercise before breakfast it helps to balance your thyroid gland and blood sugar levels. Stretch often.
  2. Cut out those foods or beverages that you know aren’t good for you. Saturate your body with Antioxidants.
  3. Use fewer chemicals around the house. Ensure what you put on your body is chemical free. Look at the chemicals in your makeup, aftershave and deodorants. Are they chemical free?
  4. Get your spine checked, have regular massages, or see an Acupuncturist. If you know what some of your hereditary diseases are, be pro-active and do everything you can to stop the hereditary cycle because from the wisdom of ancient medicine all hereditary diseases are the end result of your environment. Therefore by changing what you do you can change any hereditary pre-disposition.

You can reverse disease or better still prevent disease, but the approach is to keep being proactive with your health.

For example getting blood tests completed and get them looked at by someone who understands preventative medicine. Looking at all the contributing factors and by starting and keeping a comprehensive health and well being programme in place.

For the entrepreneur who wants lifestyle, freedom and abundance commit to your health like something you have never done before, because without health there truly is nothing!
Personally I am like a little Terrier. Once I find the truth, I keep doing what’s necessary all through my life. I don’t give up or let any obstacle get in the road.

As always with any change in your routine like exercise or anything mentioned above please see your normal health care professional before starting.

Caring for you naturally,
