Imagine a severe case of “the blahs” combined with all over achiness. It never seems to go away. The aches turn into outright pains with any type of exertion. As time passes, “the blahs” get worse and turn into a mixture of depression and exhaustion. Headaches and stomach aches develop, and one is tempted to spend all day in bed. The feeling is as though life is falling apart.
IF ANYONE HAS EXPERIENCED ANY OR ALL OF THESE SYMPTOMS, THEN WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF FIBROMYALGIA SUFFERERS.
Welcome to the nightmare known as Fibromyalgia: a disease with no definitive cause, symptoms, standard medical tests, or treatments. The condition most commonly affects women between 20-40 years old.
The symptoms often overlap with those of other conditions: migraines and other headaches, depression, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and sleep disorders.
It’s not clear if these conditions tend to co-exist with fibromyalgia, are caused by fibromyalgia, or if fibromyalgia and these conditions appear similar.
Most patients with FMS say that they ache all over. Their muscles may feel like they’ve been pulled or overworked. Sometimes the muscles twitch and other times they burn.
People can relate to this condition by thinking back to the last time they had a flu. Every muscle in the body shouted out in pain. In addition, they felt devoid of energy, as though someone had unplugged their power supply.
FMS may resemble a post-viral state. This similarity is the reason experts in the field of FMS and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) believe that these two syndromes may be one and the same.
WHAT REALLY CAUSES FIBROMYALGIA?
The cause of FMS remains elusive, but there are many triggering events thought to precipitate its onset. A few examples would be an infection (viral or bacterial), a car accident, or the development of another disorder such as arthritis, lupus, or hypothyroidism.
As a Functional medicine Naturopath, I see adrenal problems, mitochondria energy issues co-existing with bacterial/fungal infections affecting neurotransmitters and immune post viral problems.
These can be picked up using ORGANIC ACIDS TESTING and is such an important test to undergo if suffering with fibromyalgia.
