Is Your Body Stuck in “Fight or Flight” Mode?

Ever felt like your anxiety, worry, irritation and nagging fatigue just won’t go away?

That feeling of being “overwhelmed” is often due to the overtaxing of your adrenal glands.

But you don’t need drugs to overcome low energy and constant fatigue. Today I’ll give you some insight into the problem and show you how your body’s “feel good hormone” may help.

In our modern world, you are constantly bombarded by sirens, stereos, televisions, street noise, telephones, and crowds of busy people, sometimes yelling and screaming – not to mention the challenge of making money, raising children, managing your career and enduring the violence-filled evening news.

In physiological terms, these stresses cause changes in your body.

The adrenal glands, which make adrenaline and cortisol, get to the point where they are constantly excited and distressed. Your bloodstream becomes flooded with adrenalin from short-term stress, AND cortisol from long-term stress.

Cortisol is your body’s chronic stress hormone. It gives your body the chance to pool all of its resources to deal with a crisis. And adrenaline gives you short bursts of energy to help get yourself out of trouble. The two of these hormones together create your “fight or flight” response.

Under these conditions, your body is not focused on long-term health and maintenance. It’s only concerned with the crisis in front of you. But when your body gets stuck in fight or flight mode, it drains your energy and eliminates your natural balance and ability to adapt to change.

Hormones like adrenaline and cortisol are extremely powerful. A little goes a long way. And when your adrenal glands get stuck in the “on” position, it can literally wipe you out.

You see, your body simply isn’t equipped to be stressed all the time. It prevents your body from performing other vital functions like building your immune system or laying down new bone or muscle.

At any given moment, your body is performing thousands of tasks and carrying out all sorts of remarkable feats. This is all part of its daily maintenance. But when the alarm bells sound, all energies are diverted into dealing with the crisis at hand.

If you’re like this all the time your body can’t sustain optimal health and fitness for very long. Sickness, depression and disease are right around the corner.

Get Your Energy Back by Following these Simple Steps:

  1. Adrenals love regularity. Eating meals regularly, going to bed at the same time and waking up at the same time every morning will relax and support adrenal function.
  2. Certain supplements and herbs can support the adrenals so that you have greater tolerance to stress. Vitamin B5 and B6 are the anti stress vitamins and Vitamin C is invaluable in feeding the adrenal glands.
  3. With dysfunctional adrenals, sleep can be a challenge, but whilst supporting the adrenal during the day, some natural sleep aids like Magnesium and calming teas may allow a better quality sleep and therefore better energy.

Here Are Some other Useful Tips:

You can take action right away. The Adrenal Glands can become revived by increasing  DHEA. The leading anti-aging doctors call DHEA the “anti-stress hormone.”

DHEA stands for dehydroepiandrosterone. It’s the most abundant product of the adrenal glands when your health is stable.

DHEA is the precursor used by your body in producing sex hormones like testosterone, estrogen and progesterone. It’s produced in large quantities when you’re young, but dwindles with age. DHEA is the natural counter to cortisol.

Some of the other benefits of DHEA include:

  1. Less stress
  2. Enhanced energy
  3. A boost in immune system function
  4. Reduced body fat
  5. Increased libido
  6. Sharper memory
  7. Prevention of wrinkles and the signs of physical aging

You secrete DHEA when you’re well fed, secure and free of stress. But when you are under stress, you suppress DHEA and secrete adrenaline and cortisol from the adrenals instead.

This combined action puts off all long-term repair and maintenance. Every problem or injury goes unhealed and unaddressed.

To increase your DHEA, Adrenal tonics such as ADAPTAN and ADRENO- TONE contain powerful herbs that increase your DHEA. When you take these adrenal tonics, you will experience more energy and you will be able to tolerate stress better so that you don’t experience fatigue, depression or Insomnia.

Additionally, you can raise your levels of DHEA with lifestyle stress relievers. These can be helpful in lowering your levels of cortisol. Here are a few of my favorite forms of stress-reduction that will help:

  • Martial Arts
  • Meditation
  • Acupuncture
  • Yoga
  • Massage
